Hunger & Homeless Grant

At Open Your Heart, our guiding principle is to give where the need is greatest. The Hunger and Homeless Grant is targeted toward organizations serving adults, families and youth experiencing homelessness and food insecurity throughout Minnesota. The primary goal is to ensure that these providers of crisis services have the tools, equipment, and infrastructure necessary to best serve those in need. Preference is given to services for people who are currently homeless – on the street or in shelters.

Education Grant

Please note that in order to increase our impact, Open Your Heart will no longer have a separate annual Education Fund. Funding towards educational purposes will be allocated through Open Your Heart’s quarterly Hunger and Homeless Grant cycles. This will enable us to be more equitable in our grantmaking and ensure we can provide funding to more agencies in need each year.

Summer Challenge

This grant supports food shelves when they need it most – during the summer when kids are out of school.

Special Projects

Open Your Heart will occasionally implement Requests for Proposals for unique or timely issues affecting hungry and homeless people. These opportunities will be announced on our website at least two months prior to the deadline. Please sign up here and check that you would like to receive these announcements by email.

We recognize that on occasion, a natural disaster or other unforeseen event might result in a shutdown of services. We may be able to fund quickly in those circumstances. Please call our office at (612) 338-5577 or email us at [email protected] if that situation arises. Please note, emergency grants will only be available to agencies that have no other resources available and will require suspending services without immediate assistance.
