Open Your Heart provided CES with funding to install a liftgate and shelving in CES’s Home Delivery van and incorporate rolling carts into their operations, creating a more efficient and safer “door-to-door” process for delivering healthy and culturally familiar groceries to low-income and homebound seniors in South and Downtown Minneapolis. In the longer term, this new equipment will allow CES to increase the number of program participants served at each site. They have a waiting list of 70+ households and increasing their operational efficiency is one step towards being able to serve more households.
Based in the most ethnically diverse neighborhood in Minneapolis, CES staff and volunteers are on the frontlines of providing food, hope, and compassion to their multi-generational, multi-cultural, low-income clientele. They strive to serve their neighbors in need without distinction or test, with dignity and understanding.
CES is always accepting new volunteers! As they start to approach the summer months the need of the community will increase, especially for the children who are no longer at school during the day. Volunteering with CES or donating to their food shelf, ensures our neighbors have consistent access to healthy food all year round.
Volunteering can be one time, once a month or once a week. CES will work around your schedule. As a CES volunteer, you help expand the reach to over 126,000 neighbors – whether delivering groceries to homebound seniors, sorting and packing non-perishable food items, providing prayer and advocacy during a food shelf visit, delivering pet food, or making sure seniors receive nourishing meals. The role you play is vital to our community. View the link for more information and to get involved!
