With support from our generous donors, Open Your Heart provided Community Emergency Service (CES) with funding toward a freezer for CES’ Senior Support program which provides free home delivery of groceries and prepared meals to a growing segment of low-income, homebound, and food insecure seniors across Minneapolis during the pandemic.

Rooted in God’s loving grace, CES transforms lives by serving neighbors, sharing resources and becoming community–a place where people come hungry and leave hopeful. Since 1971, CES has been located in and served our neighbors across the Phillips Community and adjacent areas of South, Downtown, and North Minneapolis.

Annually, CES provides 126,000+ low-income neighbors with 534,594 healthy and culturally appropriate meals, provides emergency financial and material assistance, and refers clients to additional resources and services that will help them move towards stability. But, most importantly, CES creates a sense of hope in place of hopelessness for our neighbors who are experiencing a crisis or transition. CES is much more than the food we distribute; it is a community where resources are shared, struggles are heard, and neighbors help neighbors with dignity and respect.

CES’s biggest needs right now include:

Do you have a car? A license? An hour to spare in your afternoon? Meals on Wheels volunteers are urgently needed! Learn more or sign up at Cesmn.org/volunteer/
Host a food or cash drive to help replenish our food inventories after a busy holiday season. Learn more at Cesmn.org/host-a-drive/
Donate new or gently used household goods and supplies (eating utensils, dinner plates, pots and pans, blankets, pillow, sheets (especially queen sets), bath towels, and can openers).
