Open Your Heart provided Dakota Woodlands with funding to purchase new tables, chairs, and highchairs for their dining room. Families staying at Dakota Woodlands receive 3 meals and 2 snacks per day, prepared by our on-site chefs. The new, sturdy furniture has created a welcoming atmosphere for families to share nutritious meals, build relationships with staff, and create camaraderie with each other.
Dakota Woodlands empowers displaced families on their journey to independence. Dakota Woodlands is the only shelter for families experiencing homelessness in Dakota County. Their primary goal is for families to gain stability and secure a home of their own. This is done through a person-centered approach which includes 24/7 support, help to remove barriers to housing, access to resources, and specialized training and educational programming.
Families that participate in the Dakota Woodlands program are welcome to stay at the shelter as long as they need to. Shelter staff work collaboratively with families, helping them reach their goals of having a safe home, economic stability, healthcare, and family well-being. Staff provides 24/7 support to assist families with removing barriers that prevent them from moving into affordable housing, connect families with services that help sustain independence after leaving Dakota Woodlands, and provide specialized training to help families build confidence and gain life skills that help maintain stability.
Dakota Woodlands is seeking volunteers to serve weekend meals to their residents!
Thank you, Dakota Woodlands!
