Open Your Heart is proud to highlight our grantee partner, Hospitality House of Owatonna (HHO). Thanks to our generous supporters, Open Your Heart recently granted HHO funding for two commercial washers and dryers.
HHO offers temporary and emergency accommodations for men who are transitioning through homelessness. They are a non-profit 501(c)3 community-based organization whose purpose is to provide a place of hospitality that is safe, clean, and comfortable. Its purpose and function are modeled after the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker Movement houses of hospitality.
Upgrading their laundry facilities will improve the quality of HHO’s emergency shelter and services. Upgrading to commercial-grade appliances will save their organization money by minimizing maintenance costs as well as service costs. On many occasions, individuals come to HHO with just the clothes on their backs. The act of bathing and putting on fresh clean clothes can ease emotional and mental distress. Having access to clean clothes also helps with physical health.
Washing one’s clothes can prevent certain illnesses, viruses, and parasites such as bed bugs, lice, etc. On an annual average HHO provides over 2,700 loads of laundry for their guests and over 500 loads of laundry for household needs.
Thank you, Hospitality House of Owatonna, for everything you do!
