Thanks to generous supporters like you, Open Your Heart provided Open Cupboard with funding toward the building of a walk-in cooler space in Maplewood, bringing an expected 2 million+ pounds of fresh food into the community each year. This cooler will provide additional space to store food and the ability for volunteers to backstock, furthering the feel of a traditional grocery store. Along with other renovations, this walk-in cooler will be essential to the Open Cupboard’s new high-access Today’s Harvest market that will serve an expected 4,000 households a week directly within a high-need community.

Open Cupboard is a food shelf dedicated to feeding the community by providing fresh, healthy food. Prior to the pandemic, Open Cupboard was serving 420 households each week. Since then, Open Cupboard has grown over 1000% and now serves over 4,700 households weekly with its programs and distributed over 5.8 million pounds of food in 2023.

In 2024, Open Cupboard will launch its second Today’s Harvest site in Maplewood. Today’s Harvest is a first-of-its-kind program that provides food each day to shoppers through food rescued from local grocery stores.  The market runs on the principle of being high access and low barrier—open to anyone regardless of address, daily shopping 6 days a week, and not appointments needed. Open Cupboard could not run without the help of volunteers. There are roles available to fit everyone’s needs and schedules. You can learn all about volunteering at Open Cupboard at opencupboard.org/volunteers/new-volunteers/.

Thank you, Open Cupboard, for everything you do!
