With support from our generous donors, Open Your Heart provided Sojourner with funding to help children residing in their emergency shelter achieve academic success by providing them with basic school supplies and clothing. For the past 42 years, Sojourner has been providing emergency shelter, legal advocacy, and supportive services to those victimized by domestic and sexual violence. Their mission is to advocate for increased victim safety, support the transition from victim to survivor and educate for the
prevention of domestic violence. In speaking about arriving at Sojourner Shelter, one resident shared, “the minute I walked through the door at Sojourner and saw the relief on my son’s face, I knew my life was going to take a turn for the better.” Beneath Sojourner’s logo, you’ll often find the phrase “Supporting the Journey from Fear to Hope.” Those seven words define the heart of their work. Sojourner also focuses on community outreach and education to prevent future abuse. In particular, their SafeU youth personal safety education helps young people develop the knowledge and skills needed to be in safe and healthy relationships. Sojourner’s services are free, confidential, and offered in more than 15 communities in western Hennepin County. To learn more, please
